How scoring works

Every question maps to a 0–100 score through a rubric — multiple-choice answers have a fixed score per option, 1–5 scales convert linearly, and a handful of numeric answers are compared against a published industry benchmark. A factor's score is the weighted average of its answered questions; unanswered or "I don't know" answers are excluded from that average rather than counted as zero — not knowing a number is informative, but it isn't the same as a bad one. Bands are red (below 50), yellow (50–74), and green (75 and up).

Benchmark sources

Two questions are compared against a published, independently verifiable benchmark:

A handful of other numbers — utilization rate, late-cancellation rate, inquiry-to- appointment conversion, and net collection rate — are asked about and shown back to you as context, but are deliberately not scored against a benchmark. We looked for a credible, independently verifiable source for each and didn't find one: every number in circulation for these traces back to a vendor's own marketing content, not a study, trade association, or government source. We'd rather tell you plainly than compare your practice against a benchmark we can't stand behind.

How AI tools get recommended

Every tool in the recommendation library is evaluated on the same four things before it ever gets shown to anyone: whether it addresses a real, specific gap the assessment can detect (not a vague "AI can help"); its privacy posture, starting with whether it offers a signed BAA; how usable it is for a solo practitioner with no IT support, not just a well-staffed group practice; and whether its pricing is public and specific enough to put a real number in front of you, rather than "contact us."

No vendor pays to be included, recommended, or ranked higher. We don't take affiliate commissions, sponsorships, or referral fees on any tool in the report. Vendor pricing carries a "verified on" date and we aim to recheck it quarterly — treat anything older than that as worth double-checking on the vendor's own site before you commit. (The separate AI Scribe Guide is a different part of the site with its own methodology and disclosure — it also takes no affiliate income.)

What the report is — and isn't

The report gives business-operations guidance: what to fix in how your practice runs. It is not clinical, legal, tax, or compliance advice, and recommendations about clinical efficacy (like adopting measurement-based care) are practice-level process suggestions, never guidance about how to treat an individual client.
