FlowGap

About FlowGap

I'm Dan Gardner, a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst in Del Mar, California. I trained at Northwestern and UC San Diego, spent most of my career in practice, and for a stretch of it ran the psychiatry and behavioral medicine section at Scripps Clinic.

None of that taught me how to run a practice. Residency covers diagnosis and treatment and says almost nothing about whether your calendar is actually full, whether the people who call you back become clients, or what a 20% no-show rate quietly costs you by December. Most of us learn it slowly, expensively, and alone — and the tools on offer either hand you a dashboard full of numbers with no interpretation, or a consultant at $400 an hour.

FlowGap is my attempt at the thing I wanted instead. Medicine did teach me one genuinely useful habit: take a history, gather the findings, weigh what's likely, commit to a plan. This points that same discipline at your practice rather than at a patient.

How it works

The Flow Factors assessment scores your practice across ten areas — from scheduling and client acquisition to billing, documentation burden, and clinical efficacy — against published industry benchmarks. You get a prioritized roadmap with specific fixes and AI tools matched to your practice, without an EHR integration, a consultant retainer, or a monthly dashboard subscription.

It's built for solo practitioners and group practices across the US. I run it through ExpertFocus LLC.
